Volcom's Balaram Stack takes victory at the 2022 Vans Pipe Masters, at the famed Banzai Pipeline in Haleiwa, Hawaii.
Stack is the first New Yorker ever to compete at the acclaimed Pipe Masters. Subsequently, make the final, let alone win.
This year’s Vans Pipe Masters, a WSL Specialty Event, was an invite-only event, where the Vans’ contest organizers hand selected the competitive field comprised of Pipeline specialists, local Hawaiian’s, international dark horses, and WSL World Tour surfers. The new format was designed and introduced by Vans, pushing the limits of barrel riding suited for the Pipeline and awarding surfers for aerial manoeuvres when they come out of the wave. A format that put Stack in favour amongst the field by local and international surfers.
Stack is no a stranger to Pipeline. Raised in New York, Stack spends his winters in Hawai’i at the Volcom Pipe house, with two houses facing Pipeline. Stack has competed with success at Pipeline in the past, finishing 2nd in the 2022 Da Hui Backdoor Shootout and taking 4th place at the 2019 Volcom Pipe Pro.
